The Perfect Day- Second Swell, Same Soul Episode #1

In my reading lately, I’ve stumbled on The Perfect Day exercise over and over—in books like Living Forward by Michael Hyatt, and those spot-on emails from James Clear. It’s this brilliant way to cut through the noise and pinpoint what truly lights you up. The real first step to crafting goals that actually shape the life you crave, instead of just drifting with whatever tide life throws at you.

My perfect day? It’s been locked in solid for the last nine years I’ve done this exercise—no changes, like a classic set that just keeps delivering. I wake up, grab my bike, and pedal out for an early morning surf session with my hubby. The waves are a perfect waist-to-shoulder high glass-off: warm water wrapping around me like a hug from the ocean itself, crystal-clear skies overhead, and—miraculously—nobody else out. (Because who doesn’t dream of an empty lineup?) We trade waves for a solid two hours, paddling easy, shooting the breeze while we bob and wait for the next set to drift in.

It’s so ridiculously warm, I don’t even bother changing out of my bikini top—just toss on some jean shorts and hop back on the bikes for the short cruise to lunch. Fish tacos on a sunny patio, naturally. And drifting from the speakers? That perfect throwback mix of Jimmy Buffett and Chris Isaak, just like Rubio’s nailed it twenty years ago. (Ah, the nostalgia—pure margarita-salt bliss.)

The afternoon? I dive into my current novel, weaving tales of wild ocean adventures tangled with the kind of deep personal growth that only real love can spark. It’s one of those enchanted writing sessions where the words pour out smooth and effortless, like gliding down the face of a perfect wave, and I have to literally drag myself away from the desk for a chill dinner with friends—followed by game night around the fire pit, laughter echoing into the stars.

I know, I’ve shared this perfect summer day before (guilty as charged). But dusting it off again as I gear up my goals for the second half of the year—yep, I still run on that school-year calendar—hit me with one glaring glitch. One I’ve sidestepped for ages, not quite ready to face it head-on... and definitely not ready to spill publicly.

Until now.

And that is…

Ugh, don’t you hate a good cliffhanger? (I know, I’m evil.) But trust me, I’ll dive into my deepest heartache from this Perfect Day in Episode 2 of Second Swell, Same Soul. Stay tuned—you won’t want to miss this wave.
