One of the hardest things in taking good care of your diabetes is staying motivated for the long haul. It can become burdensome to have to test and measure and poke and calculate.
After 12 years of diabetes, I was running out of steam. I had nothing left in me to keep on testing and measuring and poking and calculating. When I finally had the worst day of my diabetes life, I happened to stumble on the greatest secret to keep your motivation high.
When I have an adventure on the books, it changes everything. Diabetes is no longer about some complication the doctor threatened would happen to me in forty years anymore, it is about my adventure and being prepared so I will enjoy it.
I start paying attention to my Dexcom again, not to please someone else, but so I will know exactly how my body responds to a new sport.
And I choose foods that are going to make me stronger during my trip instead of foods that taste good only for the minute I am eating them.
I found out I can’t let a day go by where I don’t have an adventure or race to train for.
WHY I BUILT THE SEA PEPTIDE RACE TEAM

When I was trying to get back in shape after having two kids, I went back to the 5k training plans I found in magazines. They have the runs all planned out for you. All you have to do is follow them.
But the problem was, I couldn't seem to get myself out the door to run.
I knew WHAT to do, but I had no idea how to motivate myself to do it.
That summer I was introduced to another girl with type 1 who was having the same problem trying to get motivated to work out. We decided to meet once a week to workout and grab a quick bite afterwards.
Not only did that mean that I now had one workout a week on my schedule that I couldn't avoid (I wasn't going to cancel on a new friend), but I knew that I wanted to report back to her that I followed through with my other workouts that week.
That accountability held my feet to the fire. And I saw the results.
So, I built the Sea Peptide Race Team to ensure that you have the accountability you need to stay highly motivated each week. You'll check in with me each week and report out on how your training week went.

Let Me Take You Behind the Scenes...
When you join the Sea Peptide Race Team, each Sunday morning you will receive your runs and cross-training schedule for the week. That email will also include tips on running form, diabetes care, nutrition and gear ideas, and how to stay motivated.
At the end of the week, you'll email me with comments on how your workouts went and any questions that popped up during the week.
During this time you will get a chance to converse with your teammates who are going through the same training you are. You can share war stories and strategies for diabetes care.
After Week 1, we'll get a chance to talk on the phone for a half-hour conversation on how the plan works, your worries about running, your plans for diabetes care while training, how to find a local race, or gear and nutrition tips. Really, anything you need to succeed in training for a 5k.
After Week 8, we'll have another phone conversation about your upcoming race and any other topics you want to cover.
Then ten weeks after you start you'll line up at the starting line of a 5k, knowing you are ready to kill it. And so thrilled that, for the last ten weeks, you did diabetes really well. You'll post all sorts of pictures so that your teammates can follow along with you on Race Day.
Hopefully, this race will be the first in a long line of races and adventures.
WHAT BONUSES DO I GET FOR JOINING THE SOCAL RACE TEAM?
If you live in or near San Diego you can join the SoCAl Race Team and get so much more to your training plan.
Each week we will meet in a different location around North County San Diego (not a long drive from Orange County) to train together.
